“By investing in women as educators and entrepreneurs, Havenly is growing a childcare system rooted in trust, dignity, and community ownership.”

In 2022, Havenly graduates identified childcare as one of the greatest barriers facing immigrant women in New Haven, calling for community-led childcare solutions. The barriers they face are structural. Families spend an average of 20% of their income on childcare; in New Haven, average costs reach $20,000 per year. Furthermore, families cannot access childcare subsidies without employment, yet cannot secure employment without reliable childcare. For refugee families, these hurdles are amplified by transportation limitations, a deep need for language access, and a lack of cultural trust in unfamiliar systems.

Hybrid family childcare incubators are a recent Connecticut legislative innovation allowing family childcare providers to open businesses in a shared commercial space under an incubating sponsor. Only 20 incubators will be approved statewide—and Havenly is proud to be one of them.

Our hybrid family childcare incubator has launched, but we need your support to outfit the space!

How your support makes an impact:

Active Training: Participants are currently attending weekly training sessions covering business basics, education planning, and licensing with All Our Kin.
Launching Businesses: Graduates of the program will be eligible to open a business directly within our incubator, with four initial slots available based on the strongest business plans submitted.
Removing Overhead Costs: Havenly will cover rent for the first year, giving these women the room they need to learn how to run a business without financial strain.
The Perfect Space: The Childcare Incubator will be hosted at 495 Blake Street, a building entirely dedicated to early childhood learning.
Ready for Construction: A team of pro-bono architects has already developed a full design plan in coordination with the OEC licensing team.
